The Hublot story

Hublot was founded in 1980 by Italian watchmaker Carlo Crocco, who paired a gold case with a natural rubber strap, a combination the Swiss industry had never seen, and named the brand after the French word for porthole. The brand was reshaped in 2004 when Jean-Claude Biver took over as CEO. At Baselworld 2005 he unveiled the Big Bang chronograph, which won the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix Design Prize and tripled orders within a year.

LVMH acquired Hublot in 2008. Under current CEO Julien Tornare, who joined in September 2024, the brand is repositioning toward higher watchmaking with proprietary materials including Magic Gold, coloured sapphire cases and patented two-colour ceramic.

Hublot Big Bang

The Hublot Big Bang launched in 2005 and remains the brand's signature line. Cases run 38mm to 45mm, with chronograph, GMT, flyback and tourbillon variants. Steel and titanium references typically start in the £8,000 to £12,000 range pre-owned, with King Gold, Magic Gold and gem-set pieces reaching £100,000 and beyond.

The Big Bang Unico sub-line carries Hublot's in-house calibre with around 330 components, supporting flyback chronograph, GMT and perpetual calendar complications. The Big Bang Integral, introduced in 2020, took the collection into integrated-bracelet territory to compete in the same arena as the Royal Oak and Nautilus, and is one of the more sought-after recent releases on the secondary market.

Hublot Classic Fusion

The Hublot Classic Fusion launched in 2010 as a slimmer, more restrained interpretation of Crocco's original 1980 design. Available in 33mm, 38mm, 42mm and 45mm cases across titanium, ceramic and King Gold, the collection is the most versatile in the Hublot range and the natural entry point into the brand. Pre-owned pricing starts around £5,000 for steel and titanium references and rises to over £30,000 for gold and gem-set pieces. The Aerofusion variant adds a skeletonised chronograph movement.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang

Introduced in 2014, the Spirit of Big Bang reframes the Big Bang DNA in a tonneau-shaped case. Visible bezel screws, a skeletonised dial and a sapphire caseback give the collection a distinct silhouette that wears differently to round-cased models. Spirit of Big Bang watches are produced in titanium, ceramic, King Gold and carbon fibre, with most references trading between £15,000 and £80,000 on the pre-owned market.

Hublot King Power

The Hublot King Power took the brand's design language to its limit. Cases measure 48mm with oversized crowns, prominent push-pieces and a thick stacked-component construction. The collection has been discontinued, which has made it a strong pre-owned play. Sport-themed editions including the F1 King Power, UEFA Euro and Ferrari variants are particularly collectable, with limited-edition references typically holding their value better than mainstream Big Bang and Classic Fusion models.

What is Hublot Magic Gold?

Magic Gold is Hublot's patented alloy that fuses 24-carat gold with boron carbide ceramic to produce an 18-carat material that is virtually scratch-proof. Hublot is the only watchmaker producing this alloy, which is rated above 1,000 Vickers on the hardness scale, well above traditional gold and most steel.

What case sizes does Hublot offer?

Classic Fusion runs from 33mm to 45mm, making it suitable for a wide range of wrists. Big Bang sits at 38mm, 42mm or 45mm depending on reference. Spirit of Big Bang uses a tonneau case that wears smaller than its dimensions suggest. The discontinued King Power is 48mm and wears large.
