Collecting With Value in Mind
Watch Investing
Some watches hold their value better than others. We help collectors buy the references that have historically been in demand, keep them in the condition that matters at resale and sell them when the time is right. This page explains how we work and what actually drives a watch's value. It is not financial advice.
Buying
The References Collectors Ask For
Time 4 Diamonds specialises in the brands that dominate the secondary market: Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Richard Mille. We hold stock of the models collectors compete for, such as the Daytona, Submariner and GMT-Master II, the Royal Oak, the Nautilus and Aquanaut. We also source specific references on request, most within 30 days.
Every watch is authenticated by our in house watchmakers and comes with our 12 month warranty. Full sets with box and papers are noted on each listing because they matter at resale.
What Drives Value
Scarcity, Condition and Provenance
Secondary market prices are set by supply and demand, not by the retail price. The references that have held value best share a few traits: production is limited relative to demand, the model has been discontinued or changed and the watch is unpolished, complete with box and papers and documented with a service history.
Prices move in both directions. The market rose sharply in 2021 and 2022 and then fell back through 2023 and 2024, and individual references behave differently within any cycle.
Holding
Protect the Value While You Own It
Condition is the variable you control. Regular servicing by qualified watchmakers, keeping the original parts if the watch is customised and storing the box, papers and service records together all protect the price you will achieve later. Our in house workshop services the brands we sell.
Selling
Sell Outright or List With Us
When you decide to sell, we buy watches outright with same day payment in most cases, or list the watch for you for a fee of 10 percent of the final price, payable only when the sale completes. The commission is waived if you are upgrading to another watch from our stock.
Important
Not Financial Advice
Time 4 Diamonds is a watch retailer and not a financial adviser. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nothing on this page or elsewhere on our site is a recommendation to buy, hold or sell any watch as an investment. Past price performance is not a guide to future value. The value of a watch can fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you paid. Take independent professional advice before making any purchase for investment purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are luxury watches a good investment?
Some references have outperformed their retail price over long periods, many have not, and the market as a whole fell after its 2022 peak. A watch is an illiquid asset with dealing costs on both sides, so it should be bought first because you want to own it. We do not give investment advice.
Which brands hold their value best?
Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille have historically been the strongest brands on the secondary market, driven by limited supply against high demand. Within each brand the gap between the most sought after references and the rest is wide.
Does customisation affect value?
Usually yes. A non-factory dial, bezel or diamond setting takes the watch outside manufacturer specification, which narrows the pool of buyers and can reduce the resale price. Keep the original parts so the watch can be returned to factory configuration.
How much do box and papers matter?
A great deal. A full set with the original box, warranty card and booklets typically sells faster and for more than a watch alone, and matching serial numbers on the card are a key part of authentication.
Can you advise me on what to buy?
We can tell you what we know about a reference, its history, its condition and current market pricing. We cannot and do not give financial or investment advice. For that, speak to an FCA regulated adviser.
