Franck Muller is the Swiss house behind some of the boldest mechanical watches in modern horology, and the maker most often credited with the title Master of Complications. The Story Behind Franck Muller

Franck Muller trained in Geneva and spent the 1980s building highly complicated watches under his own name before partnering with the casemaker Vartan Sirmakes. The two established the house in 1991, with its Watchland headquarters in Genthod on the shore of Lake Geneva.

What set the brand apart was its work on complications most houses reserved for showpieces: tourbillons, perpetual calendars and minute repeaters. It later added the Crazy Hours, where the hour numerals are scrambled around the dial yet still tell the correct time. The Cintrée Curvex case, introduced in the early 1990s, became the shape the brand is built on, and its modern sports line, the Vanguard, keeps the same tonneau silhouette.
