Patek Philippe Complications White Gold Blue Leather Strap 5930G-001

The reference 5930G-001 is the watch that brought the World Time Chronograph into Patek Philippe's current line. It was presented at Baselworld in 2016 as the maison's first series-produced wristwatch to pair a world-time display with a chronograph, a pairing it had built only once before in the unique reference 1415 HU of the 1940s. It reads as a contemporary piece rather than a reissue, driven by a movement developed specifically for the job.

A hand-guilloché blue dial

Under a bevelled sapphire crystal, the blue opaline dial carries a hand-guilloché centre worked in a fine circular pattern. Applied white-gold hour markers with a luminescent coating sit against it, framed by a 24-hour ring with day and night indication and an outer ring naming the reference cities for all 24 time zones. The result shows the hour anywhere in the world at a glance while keeping the reading clean, which is the balance Patek Philippe's world-time layout is known for.

The CH 28-520 HU movement

The engine is the self-winding caliber CH 28-520 HU. It is a flyback chronograph, so the timing can be reset and restarted in one action without stopping first. A column wheel and vertical clutch drive it, which gives a precise start with no stutter on the seconds hand. Timing is read off the central sweep seconds and an instantaneous 30-minute counter at 6 o'clock. The calibre runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, uses a 38-jewel construction and holds around 55 hours of power reserve, closer to 50 with the chronograph running. It carries the Patek Philippe Seal, the maison's own certification, which holds the movement to a daily rate of minus 3 to plus 2 seconds.

Case, strap and wearability

The white-gold case measures 39.5mm across and 12.86mm thick, slim for a watch running two complications of this order, with a fixed white-gold bezel and the winglet-shaped lugs that give the reference its stance. A sapphire display caseback opens the view onto the movement. Water resistance is 30 metres, enough for everyday wear but not for swimming. It sits on a blue alligator leather strap fastened by an 18-carat white-gold fold-over clasp.
