The Royal Oak Selfwinding 41 is the purest expression of the watch Gerald Genta drew for Audemars Piguet in 1972, and the 15510ST is its current form. Released in 2022 to mark the model's fiftieth anniversary, it refined the case ergonomics and bracelet taper of the 15500 it replaced while keeping calibre 4302 inside. No automatic watch has reshaped the market the way the Nautilus 5711/1A did. Introduced in 2006 as the fortieth-anniversary successor to Genta's 1976 original, it was discontinued in January 2021 at the height of its demand, and the final olive-green 5711/1A-014 sold for multiples of retail before the year was out. Earlier examples run calibre 324 S C; production from late 2018 onwards moved to calibre 26-330 S C, which added a stop-seconds function and an improved date mechanism.

8. Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001

The Aquanaut is the Nautilus for people who want to swim in it. Launched in 1997 and refreshed in 2007 as the 5167A, it takes the same octagonal case language onto a composite Tropical strap and adds 120 metres of water resistance. The 5167A-001 on rubber remains in production; its sibling on the steel bracelet, the 5167/1A-001, was discontinued in early 2025 and immediately became a collector's reference.

Inside is the same calibre family as the Nautilus: 324 S C in earlier production, 26-330 S C in later pieces, both with the Patek Philippe Seal and a reserve of around 45 hours. The Santos was the first wristwatch designed for a man to wear, made by Louis Cartier for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904.
