Have Rolex's New Releases Been Leaked? A Whole New Model? Updated Dial Configurations? Will Any Of This Really Happen?
On the very first day of April, Watches and Wonders commences where Rolex will unveil their new models for 2025. Every year, horological fanatics create predictions on what Rolex will release, however, there may be no need for predictions as there have been some potential leaks disclosed.
Importantly, these remain as rumours because nothing has been officially announced by Rolex. But, we will feed into this most likely fake news reviewing each model that could be released by The Crown. In the past, it has been speculated that Rolex leaked potential releases in order to gain general feedback and an early review from enthusiasts before they finalise the launch of new models. Again, this is probably false information but it is an idea to take into account when Rolex leaks break out.
A Brand New Model To Be Added To The Catalogue?
Probably the most widely discussed leak is the release of the Land-Dweller. Not only was the aesthetics of the Land-Dweller released, but also a patent filling of the model’s name! Visually, there is clear inspiration taken from the Oysterquartz model which was Rolex’s attempt at creating a quartz watch in 1977.
Whether the Land-Dweller pays tribute to the Oysterquartz or simply just inspired by the model’s case shape is unknown. It is believed that the function will be exactly the same as the Datejust, maybe more efficient and accurate in telling time with more power. Ultimately, who knows? If this is to be released from Rolex, it is quite underwhelming and very lazy with similar tastes of the Patek Cubitius.
Yellow Gold Daytona with a “Tiffany” Dial
2025 marks Rolex’s 120th anniversary and the brand is known to incorporate certain colours into models to celebrate these special occasions. Either green or a lighter shade of blue is used, for example the Day-Date 40, reference 228235 with the olive green dial that celebrated 60 years of the Day-Date collection. Alternatively, the Daytona "Platona," reference 116506 with the icy blue dial was released to celebrate 50 years of the Daytona.
Here, we see Rolex integrating a turquoise dial, also known as the “Tiffany” dial for the yellow gold Daytona. Whilst there are components that are admirable: Rolex’s beautiful yellow gold, the elegant blue dial and bold black ceramic bezel, they do not blend well. If this dial configuration was included for a non-ceramic white gold variation, we think it would be more suited.
Yellow Gold Sky-Dweller With A Green Dial
As just mentioned, Rolex loves to incorporate the colour green to celebrate the celebration of anniversaries. Despite it not being a celebration of the Sky-Dweller, this piece could still be released to honour the brand’s 120th anniversary. Even if it is unveiled without intention to be aligned with the anniversary, this would be a very special release.
A configuration identical to the Rolex Daytona 116508 “John Mayer,” we are certain that this model would reach the same height the Daytona “John Mayer” did. Deservedly so, as this is a beautiful configuration that looks perfect on the Daytona and what could be for the Sky-Dweller. Hopefully, this isn’t just a rumour as there is no doubt that this Sky-Dweller would become a highly requested piece.
Steel GMT-Master II “Sprite” With A Green Dial
Another potential leak seeing a green dial added to a model, this involving the Rolex GMT-Master II specifically the “Sprite” model reference 126710VTNR. 2025 also marks an anniversary of the GMT-Master collection; the model celebrates 70 years since its launch in 1955. Part of our predictions included a GMT-Master II green dial but in yellow gold, similar to the reference 116718LN- a model released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GMT-Master.
Whilst the green dial looks perfect with the GMT-Master II “Sprite,” surely there won’t be two models seeing a green dial part of their collection as that just seems too obvious and lazy. Although this GMT-Master II looks stunning, we would much rather Rolex officially release the yellow gold Sky-Dweller and green dial.
Rose Gold GMT-Master II With The Tiger's Eye Dial
Adding to the ever-growing list for new GMT-Master II models to be released this year is this full rose gold GMT-Master II. The image is extremely blurry but gathering reports and comments on this potential leak, it is depicted that the dial is a stone dial specifically the tiger eye dial.
Another part of our predictions was the idea of stone dials, not for the GMT-Master II though, but for the 1908. Enhancing the idea of stone dials was Rolex’s social media that highlighted their dial making expertise. This GMT-Master II variation could be a remastered reference 16713 but in full rose gold, not a two tone piece of rose gold and steel. This would be an interesting addition to the current catalogue, with the possibility of being a personal favourite for some.
Do We Think Any Of These Rolex Leaks Will Be Released?
In conclusion, the chances of these Rolex models being released is the same as the predictions made by us as the stories and explanation behind each potential model is fairly justified and plausible yet there is zero confirmation. Yes, they have been titled as leaks but there remains zero trust in these images being part of Rolex’s official releases. As always, we will have to wait until Watches and Wonders on the 1st of April.
