The Rolex Cellini was Rolex's dedicated dress-watch line, made entirely in precious metal and named after the Renaissance goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini. Rolex discontinued the collection in 2023 and replaced it with the Perpetual 1908, so every Cellini is now a finite, pre-owned piece. Time 4 Diamonds, London-based since 2005, authenticates and warranties each Cellini we sell.
What sets the Rolex Cellini apart
The modern Cellini, produced from 2014 until 2023, brought order to what had been a wildly varied line. Every modern model uses a 39mm round case in 18ct white gold or 18ct Everose gold, paired with an alligator leather strap and a matching gold buckle. Unlike Rolex's Oyster sports watches, the Cellini is water resistant to 50 metres and built for formal wear rather than diving. It still uses a screw-down winding crown to keep dust and moisture out.
All modern Cellini watches are Superlative Chronometers, accurate to within minus two to plus two seconds per day. The line sits outside Rolex's better-known Oyster Professional and classic Oyster families, which is part of its appeal for buyers who want a Rolex that looks different on the wrist.
Rolex Cellini models and references
| Model | References | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cellini Time | 50505 (Everose), 50509 (white gold) | Time-only, calibre 3132 |
| Cellini Date | 50515 (Everose), 50519 (white gold) | Pointer date subdial at 3 |
| Cellini Dual Time | 50525 (Everose), 50529 (white gold) | Second time zone with day and night at 6 |
| Cellini Moonphase | 50535 (Everose only) | Blue enamel disc with meteorite moon |
The Cellini Moonphase is the most collectable of the modern references. It brought a moonphase complication back to the Rolex catalogue and uses a real meteorite for the full-moon marker on a blue enamel disc. The Cellini Time in white gold is the cleanest and most versatile everyday option.
Buying a pre-owned Rolex Cellini
Because the Cellini is out of production, supply is fixed. We inspect the case, dial and movement on every piece and check the strap and buckle before listing. The successor line, the Rolex 1908, carries forward the same dress-watch brief with an updated movement and an open case back, and is worth comparing if you are weighing old against new.
If we do not hold the reference you want, our team can locate a specific Cellini through our watch sourcing service. You can also view the wider range of Rolex watches in our collection.
